Lietuvos Sveikatos Mokslu Universitetas (LSMU)Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) is the biggest institution of higher education for biomedical sciences in Lithuania integrating studies, research and clinical practice. In 2017, 7900 students, among them 761 foreign and 260 PhD students, are taking part in 118 study programmes.

There are 7 faculties and 5 research institutes at the University. Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kaunas Clinics consists of 39 in-patient departments and is the biggest health care provider in Lithuania serving as the main basis for studies and clinical research at LSMU.

LSMU collaborates with more than 140 European, American and Asian universities for study and research purposes. The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences has two WHO collaborating centres (WHO CC): one – for research and training in epidemiology as well as for prevention of cardiovascular and other chronic non-communicable diseases, and second – for nursing education and practice.

In the Project, there are two departments involved – Department of Geriatrics and Department of Rehabilitation. Their expertise, clinical practice, educational activities and research are focused on health and social care provision of the elderly aiming quality of life and quality of care; rehabilitation and integrated health care for persons with chronic diseases and disabilities.
